Ahead of TGC Global Entertainment hosting its first-ever London TV Screenings showcase this week, Phil Gurin weighs in on entertainment format trends, risk aversion, and more.
Gurin launched TGC as an independent format distributor almost three years ago to represent his own formats as well as third-party acquisitions. “We’re a producer-led distribution company,” he tells me in this Road to London podcast, which you can watch on YouTube below and on Spotify.
“Go pitch something that you want to make, you want to watch, and hope it’s not derivative of everything else,” says Gurin on how producers should be approaching risk-averse platforms. “That’ll be the best pitch you’ll have with that buyer, because they will not have heard of that idea before. Now, they may not buy it, but they will remember that you came in with this great new idea. This is again a way to stay positive and use the skills you have as a creator.”
TGC Global Entertainment arrives in London with its first two deals on NRK’s Code Red: The Lighthouse, an expanded slate with Cash Battle, and a new addition to its agent network with Sunita Uchil in India.
